1871 / 1872 - the census and the OS survey

The spring 1871 census aligns well with the 1872 survey of the 1st edition OS map. The latter shows 2 single properties outside the circle (Westview and unnamed Millside); 5 double villas on the inner circle (Chatham; Hawthorne; Laburnum; Portland/Lily and unnamed Hollies/Derrymore) and 2 double villas (Grafton and unnamed Fernbank/Lowther) on the outer circle.

The 1871 census records 8 households against the 16 dwellings on the 1872 survey. It is reasonable to assume some of these other 8 were uninhabited since the 1871 census for Newton/Upton/Moston/Bache records 11 uninhabited dwellings and 1 still building while Upton Park was believed to be the only major development in the area. The following record is derived from the 1871 census but with some assumptions in aligning to current Park houses.

Census records are generally consecutive houses (ie neighbours) however no census data can be guarantee as correct.
