From the 1881 census
At the time of the 1881 census; Upton Park residences had not been
assigned house numbers although several of them had house names.
It appears that most of the pairs of semis went under single house names.
This is supported by the early 1870's OS map
Many of the house names used in 1870/80's are no longer used but researching
the data has largely enabled the tracing back through the changing
names of a house.
Census information is recorded as consecutive houses (ie neighbours) and
the Upton Park list does flow around the park anti-clockwise from
the north. However census data cannot be guarantee as correct.
17 occupied houses. 4 unoccupied.
People's ages where shown refer to their age in 1881 (census year)
The census also recorded place of birth. Of the 17 people recorded
as 'Heads' half these were local (within 30mile radius) the others from
well around the UK (Hampshire;Ireland;Northampton etc)
