From the 1891 census

This census falls between the two OS surveys of 1872 & 1898

Upton Park residences were still either unnamed or known by house name (often different to those used today).
Census information is generally recorded as consecutive houses (ie neighbours) and this helps in placing unnamed houses. The inhabitants of some unnamed houses tally with named houses in 1881 - assumption here is that the 1891 census simply did not record the house name. Remember - census data cannot be guarantee as correct.

For the 25 households - the following points are worth noting -
  • Large turnover of residents since the 1881 census
  • Over half (17) the households have children 15yrs or younger
.....(55 children - half boys half girls)
.....(14 of the children are aged 5yrs and under)
  • Average age of 'head of household' 51.5yrs
    .....(9 over 60yrs; 7 under 40yrs)
  • Over half (15) of households with live-in servants
.....quite possible others had non-live-in maids

People's ages where shown refer to their age in 1891 (census year)

Only the following in the 1881 census remain for 1891 Smiths of no:80; Roberts of no:29; Clarks of no:31; Bates of no:5; Shone of no:68; and the Deans in the Mill.
