From the 1901 census - 31 March

This census gives more information than previous ones -
  • denotes uninhabited premises and uninhabited but occupied as in businesses and presumably unlet rental property.
  • designation of employer or employee and whether working from home
  • designation of handicap - eg deaf, blind etc

Many Upton Park residences were still unnamed but from the sequence and other evidence identification is apparent except where stated. The order given below reflects the order of this census (not the order of the previous census.

25 households (same number as in 1891) - only nos:28 and 32 were built since the 1891 census but 2 properties denoted vacant.

1901 Electoral Roll information has been incorporated to help identify absent landlords.

Remember - census data cannot be guarantee as correct. The record was handwritten from the verbal response of the household.

People's ages where shown refer to their age 31 March 1901.

For the 25 households - the following points are worth noting -
  • Large turnover of residents since the 1891 census
  • Half (13) the households have children 15yrs or younger
    .....(24 children - 15 girls / 9 boys)
.....(9 of the children are aged 5yrs and under)
  • Average age of 'head of household' 49.5yrs
    .....(8 over 60yrs; 9 under 40yrs)
  • Over half (17) of households with live-in servants
.....quite possible others had non-live-in maids

The initial number (eg 104 below) is the census record number within the parish record.
