Upton Park roadway 1938 until late 1950's

The policy was now one of DIY using the roadman for minor maintenance and engaging a contractor for more major tasks.

Some of the purchases for the DIY repair -
1940 - 24cwt of tarmac from Foden Bros; 6 tons of gravel (3/8") from Moore & Brock - all for £3/18/6d.
1941 - 40 gallon drum of bitumen at £2/15/-d.
1942 - 40 gallon drum of bitumen at £3/-/-d.
The roadman - Mr Woodward - carried out some of this work but Mr Elson was also used.

As regards main contractors - Scientific Road were frequently engaged.

Immediately post WW2; the question of road adoption by Cheshire County Council was again unanimously pursued but following the £12,000 essential upgrade estimate the committee to rule out any possibility of adoption and road repairs to the previous policy were stepped up.
