Plots 11 & 12

House numbers 40 & 42 built late c1871; no:36 built 1974

The 1857 plot allocation plan (the 1857 plan may contain allotment names added later)shows Haswell owning the half of plot 11 closest to plot 10. Denson is shown as owning the other half of plot 11 along with plot 12. A set of abstracts dated 1871 were prepared for sale of the plot by Thomas Wood possibly for the building by or for Haswell & Denson. The double property is shown on the 1872 OS survey named as Grafton Villas. No residents are recorded in the 1871 census but the 1881 census records three seperate heads of household as well as a border, a lodger and two servants. One is Denson but Haswell appears to have been an absentee landlord.

No:40 had a stable/coachhouse block and for many years plot 12 served as the paddock. Post WW2 the plot 12 paddock was used for many Guy Fawkes night celebrations when the Park residents and friends had a bonfire firworks and hearty refreshments. After the death of the last Miss Crosby in the early 1970s the plot was sold and a new detached house built.
